Hello everybody! I hope you all are safe and well! Personal statements are very hard to write and I’m here to try and make that easier. Here are my top five common mistakes and how to fix them. I also added some other common red flags as well. I hope this video helps you write your personal statement. Please let me know if you have any questions and if you have seen any other common mistakes! By no means am I an expert on personal statement writing nor is this the best way to write your personal statement. However, I hope these examples inspire you to write your own!
Disclaimer: All examples given are excerpts from personal statements I wrote in the past. Plagiarism, the process of taking other people’s words and/or ideas and pretending that they are your own, is a violation of my intellectual property and a copyright infringement. This can and will result in disciplinary action. (Also, these are all bad examples so copying them wont be to your benefit).

Personal Statement Template
1) What was the initial event that introduced you to dentistry? OR What was the moment that made you decide dentistry?
2) What experiences did you partake in to explore dentistry and how did it further solidify your resolve to pursue dentistry? (What did you learn and what is an insight you gained from this experience?). How does this tie back to that initial event and how is this going to make you a better dental student?
3) What was another extracurricular activity that further solidified your choice to become a dentist? (What different thing did you learn and what are some insights you gained from this experience?). How does this tie back to that initial event and how is this going to make you a better dental student?
4) What are some goals you have set for yourself for when you become a dentist? How does this tie back to that initial event and how is this going to make you a better dental student?
5) Round out your experiences by restating the key points from each previous paragraph.
For me it would have been something like, “Whether it is learning more about dentistry, interacting with patients, or conducting dental research, I feel most at home when I am aiding people in dentistry. I am excited to continue discovering the vast possibilities within our dental field, as well as conducting research to push dentistry to newer heights…”
