Hello future dental students!
Congratulations on your acceptance! Here are some things that may make your life easier in dental school!
1) Lighter
You remember that cool kid in high school that had gum? The cool kid in dental school has a lighter for the bunsen burner. Be the cool kid.
2) Tooth Box
If your dental school has a sim lab, you will quickly notice plastic teeth piling up in your station. For that matter, get a neat tooth organizer!
Pro Tip! Date all of your plastic teeth to look back at your progress!
3) Study Model
Could you tell apart a maxillary premolar from a mandibular premolar? What about a first molar from a second molar? Use this typodont with individual teeth you could take out to when studying dental anatomy!
4) Sanding Sponge
A big part of dentistry is making your work look presentable. For that matter, you will want to smooth out the stone mounts for your typodonts. A simple way to do this is by using a sanding sponge.
5) Accordion Envelope
You will receive a plethora of rubrics in dental school that give you standard definitions of how cavity preparations should be done. It’s easy to quickly get these misplaced or out of order. For that matter, it’s good to have an acordion enveloped categorized under each dental specialty.
6) Marker or Pencil (0.5mm)
If you look at any youtube video for cavity preparations, you will notice quickly that most dentists use a 0.5mm marker or pen to define their outline. I found these two products the most effective for drawing a clear outline prior to drilling.

7) Lens Cleaner
Keep your loupes clean by using lens cleaner in between sim lab projects or patients!
8) Stocking
I know this one sounds a bit weird but stockings will actually help you smooth out your waxed teeth and give you grin worthy shine!
9) Safety Glasses
You will be working with a lot of rotating equipment in dental school. Be sure to keep your eyes protected by purchasing a pair of safety glasses!
10) Tackle Box
Keep all of your dental tools and typodonts neatly organized by placing them in a fishing tackle box! This one is what I use for dental school.
Please note, some items may not be necessary and your school may provide them to you! (Especially 9 an 10)
Calling your school is advisable!
